A Punjabi Christmas in Melbourne: A Feast of Love, Laughter, and New Traditions πŸŽ„

"MERA YASHU YASHU" is trending πŸ™ˆπŸ™‰πŸ™Š in reels these days, but honestly, this is what we haven’t done, You know what I am talking about and I personally don’t like seeing people doing it! πŸ˜œ But hey, let’s not get caught up in the trends.

Anyways, to begin with.........This Christmas, we decided to embrace the fun and add a little twist of our own – a beautiful blend of Punjabi warmth and Aussie Christmas spirit! πŸŽ„πŸŽ…

πŸŽ„πŸŽ…πŸŽ✨🍽️πŸ₯‚πŸ¦ŒπŸŒŸπŸŽΆ⛄πŸͺπŸ§‘‍πŸŽ„πŸ·πŸ””πŸŽ‰Christmas Day in Melbourne – and yes, you guessed it right, we decided to hop onto the English tradition of Christmas lunch. But don't worry, we’re not abandoning our Punjabi roots here; it was just a reason to gather, laugh, and celebrate together in this beautiful city. With a mix of Aussie flair and a whole lot of Punjabi warmth, it turned into an afternoon full of food, fun, and family memories.

The Set-Up: A Red Shirt Dilemma πŸ‘•

Punjabi Tee

Now, I’m not a big fan of the color red. I mean, I love red hot lipstics, but red t-shirts? Not quite my vibe. But as luck would have it, this year’s Christmas lunch had a “Red Tee Shirt” theme. Naturally, I found out about it on the 24th, when all the stores were closed! There I was, rummaging through my closet, trying to squeeze into last year’s red t-shirt (which, frankly, had a better life as a dust rag). But hey, I pulled it off—just about! πŸ˜…

The hosts of this lovely lunch were none other than my ever-so-adorable sister-in-law Mehnoor and my super-cool and funny brother Happy. The venue? Well, let’s just say it was at their beautiful HOME (coz you know how it is when you're trying to organize a party in a city as lively as Melbourne!). But no worries, we all rallied together to make it perfect.

The Food: A Taste of Everything πŸ½️

Now, let's talk about the spread – because that’s where the magic happens. This Christmas feast had a wonderful twist – traditional Punjabi flavors with a touch of Aussie and English-inspired goodness.

We kicked things off with some drinks that were just... wow! AAM Panna (a refreshing Indian summer drink) with raspberry cubes. It was like a taste of home with a delightful Aussie twist.

Refreshing Drink

And of course, the starters were to die for:

  • Vegetarian spring rolls that were crispy perfection πŸ₯’
  • Non-veg chicken balls (for those of us who love a bit of spice!) πŸ/πŸ”
  • Aloo tikki that were golden and crispy like little pieces of happiness
  • Raisin cake – a family tradition at Christmas (because every Punjabi family secretly loves the sweet stuff, right?) πŸŽ‚

Then, of course, there was a plate of samosa paired with different sausages (because we’re not forgetting our desi roots, even in Melbourne πŸ˜œπŸ˜ŽπŸ€ͺ😈).

Small bites, big smiles! 🌟🍴 A feast for the eyes and the taste buds! πŸ˜‹

Main Course Magic πŸ˜‹

Oops!!πŸ˜‹: I totally missed snapping pictures of the main course this time, being Punjabi, we were so hungry we were dying to dive in, and the food disappeared faster than I could grab my camera! Next time, I’ll make sure to snap the pics first! πŸ˜œπŸ›.The main course was the kind of comfort food that makes you feel like you’re sitting at a family gathering in Punjab, yet you're surrounded by the laid-back Aussie vibes. We had chapatis (a must), fresh veggies salad, dahi bhallas, Malai Matar Methi, and oh, those curries! Goat curry, chicken curry – they were bursting with flavor-as mentioned by all (I'm Pure vegetarian). We ate like there was no tomorrow. πŸ›

But let’s not forget the dessert – a rose-flavored masterpiece made by none other than Bhabhi Mehnoor. It looked like a rose and tasted like falooda. Honestly, it was the perfect blend of tradition and a touch of new age creativity. πŸ’

Sweet, creamy, and a little bit dreamy – it’s the perfect blend of ice cream and faluda! 🍦🌹

The Little Ones: Anant and Bilawal πŸ‘Ά❤️

Then came the heart-stealing moments with our little cuties – Anant (who’s just 7 months old and has the cutest smile) and Bilawal (who just turned one and is already notorious for his mischievous ways). These little bundles of joy were the cherry on top of an already-perfect day. We played, laughed, and even had a few photos (thanks to Micky’s excellent camera skills πŸ˜œπŸ˜Ž).

Final Thoughts: A Day to Remember πŸ’–

Now, here’s the thing: it doesn’t matter if we were celebrating Christmas like Aussies or sticking to our Punjabi roots. The love and effort Mehnoor and Happy put into this lunch – just to bring us all together – is what made it so special. It's the little moments, the laughs, the food, the fun, and of course, the family. And that’s what truly makes a holiday memorable. πŸŒŸ

So here’s a heartfelt thank you to the lovely couple for making this Christmas one of the most special ones we've had in Melbourne. Your warmth, your love, and your efforts – we will cherish them always. ❤️

And as we embrace this Aussie-Punjabi fusion, let’s remember: it's not about where we are, but who we’re with, that makes all the difference. Here’s to more such celebrations, more laughter, and more moments that bridge cultures with love and joy.

πŸŽ…πŸŽ Merry Christmas from our Punjabi heart to yours! πŸŽ…πŸŽ

P.S. Don’t forget to wear red next time – I’ll try to do better with my tee. πŸ˜œ
